U-E Tigers Visit JFS 6th Graders!
In keeping with UE’s mission of building family and community connections, some student-athletes from the high school paid a visit to the 6th graders in Mr. Hamlin and Mr. Kizis' classes on Friday, October 16. It was a great day, filled with spirit and Tiger Pride. The young men and women shared the responsibilities that go along with being a student-athlete and stressed the importance of setting goals. In addition, they provided the 6th graders with some very helpful advice on how to become successful in middle school discussing topics such as homework, organization, and asking for extra help.
The student-athletes re-enforced the importance of being involved, making friends, ways to handle bullying, and what Tiger Pride means to them. They also answered many questions the 6th graders had for them about life at both JFS and UEHS. The “Big Tigers” acted as role models and are a true testament of what U-E Tiger Pride is all about. Most of all, everyone had a good time learning and sharing with each other.

Drip N' Sip is open for business!
The student-run café at Tiger Ventures, Drip N' Sip, officially opened for the year on October 14th! Tiger Venture students did an incredible job building a brand-new café bar and cart to kick off the season, thanks to the Town of Union.
To celebrate the full opening, students collaborated in our Food Lab with Mrs. Supa from the Cornell Cooperative Extension to make delicious Cinnamon Swirl Coffee Cake.

There’s nothing quite like the sights, smells, and tastes of fall! Over the past few weeks, Mrs. Yacobelli’s first graders at CFJ have been busy exploring all things APPLES!
Our classroom has been filled with hands-on learning, delicious smells, and lots of excitement as the children rolled up their sleeves to make homemade applesauce and several yummy apple pies!
The learning didn’t stop in the kitchen! After making our tasty fall treats, the children put on their author's hats and wrote step-by-step directions explaining how to make applesauce and apple pie. Along the way, they practiced important first-grade writing skills, including handwriting, sequencing, and using proper writing conventions.
We mixed learning with a little cinnamon, a sprinkle of teamwork, and a whole lot of fall fun! What a delicious way to learn!

Congratulations to a number of student musicians who were selected for the BCMEA Festival II, held this past weekend at Binghamton University. All students were selected based on their auditions. After less than two days of rehearsal, they put on a fantastic concert. Congratulations on an excellent musical experience!
Last week, the U-E Family Support Center (FSC) hosted Agency Day, a partnership with local agencies and organizations to share services provided at the center.
Organized by Allison Sovie, a second-year MSW candidate at Binghamton University, the event brought together 40 different agencies that provide a variety of services and assistance in our community.

During February students in Liz Scalcione’s global studies class worked on a skill-based research project studying prominent Black figures.
Students used NEWSELA articles to create an “An Enduring Issue” presentation. To start, students decided on an ‘enduring’ issue, then researched past and present black figures, picking one figure to study. Using NEWSELA, they created a Screencastify recording and slide presentation. They introduced their enduring issue and the prominent person they researched. They had to demonstrate the obstacles and challenges faced by this individual, how they overcame those obstacles and challenges, and their influence in our country, whether it be past or present.
