TJ Watson student, Sebastian wanted what every young musician wants: the chance to perform alongside his classmates.
Born with Erb’s palsy, Sebastian has limited use of his right arm. Playing the viola was difficult, but he refused to give up. That is when students in UE High School’s Engineering Design and Development class stepped in.
They listened. They designed. They tested. They kept trying.
Using 3D-printing technology, the students created a custom brace that helps Sebastian steady his hand and hold his bow. Then, they watched from the audience as he performed with his classmates.
The result was more than a brace. It gave Sebastian confidence, independence and the opportunity to fully participate in something he loves.
