seal of bilit

Congratulations to 23 UEHS students (18 seniors and five juniors) who were recognized for earning the Seal of Biliteracy. Earning the New York State Seal of Biliteracy is a significant academic achievement that recognizes students who have attained a high level of proficiency in English and at least one additional language.

To earn the distinction, students must meet rigorous state requirements, including achieving designated scores on Regents and Advanced Placement exams, completing language proficiency benchmarks, and demonstrating strong communication skills in both languages.

As a culminating requirement, candidates complete an in-depth project and present their work in the target language before a panel of language experts. This comprehensive process ensures that recipients of the Seal of Biliteracy have developed the linguistic, cultural and academic skills needed to communicate effectively in a global society.

Since the program was introduced at UEHS during the 2018-19 school year, 84 students have earned the Seal of Biliteracy. The growing number of recipients reflects the district’s commitment to language learning, cultural awareness and preparing students to succeed in an increasingly interconnected world.
