Tiger Ventures students are bringing sustainability and hands-on learning to life through a variety of projects that connect agriculture, food systems and community engagement. Just before Memorial Day weekend, students harvested five pounds of lettuce grown from seed in the school's gardens and saw it served fresh during lunch.
School chefs prepared 12 individual salads using the harvest, and nearly all were selected by
students—an exciting increase from the typical number of salads chosen each day. From planting and cultivating crops to harvesting and serving them, students are experiencing the full farm-to-table process while learning about nutrition, sustainability and responsible food production.
That learning extends beyond the garden. Students have partnered with Cornell Cooperative Extension to learn about raising baby chicks and the important role agriculture plays in supporting local communities. They are also making steady progress on the construction of a geodome, a future collaborative learning space that will support project-based learning, creativity and community connections.
Through these experiences, students are developing practical skills in teamwork, problem-solving and environmental stewardship while helping create a more sustainable future.
