Mrs. Jessica Buchman’s CFJ kindergartners teamed up with Mrs. Sarah Snyder’s fourth graders for their monthly STEM challenge, and the excitement was hard to miss.
This month’s mission was to design and build working catapults using fulcrums of different sizes.
Students experimented with balance, force, and distance as they tested how small changes could make a big difference in how far their catapults launched.
The goal was simple but fun: send gold coins flying into a pot to score points. But getting there took teamwork, creativity, and a lot of trial and error. Older students helped guide their younger partners, and together they shared ideas, adjusted designs, and celebrated each successful launch.
By the end, the room was buzzing with energy as coins soared through the air and cheers followed close behind. It was a hands-on way to bring STEM concepts to life while building confidence, collaboration, and a sense of accomplishment.
