global play day

Some Kindergarten classes at CFJ recently took part in Global School Play Day, a worldwide initiative that highlights the importance of unstructured, screen-free play. Held once a year, the event invites schools around the world to set aside time for children to play freely, without electronics, structured games, or adult-led activities.

The purpose of Global School Play Day is simple: give children the space and time to explore their global play dayglobal play dayown ideas. Instead of following instructions or focusing on screens, students are encouraged to direct their own play. The approach supports creativity, problem-solving, and social development in a natural and spontaneous way.

In the participating CFJ classrooms, students brought in toys from home, as long as they did not require batteries. Dolls, cars, and action figures filled the room. Board games like Uno and Connect Four were also popular choices. There were no electronics or screens used throughout the day.

Students also had opportunities to create crafts and use their imaginations in open-ended activities. Teachers remained present to supervise and ensure a safe environment, but the play itself was child-led.

Through this kind of free play, students practiced important life skills. They learned how to take turns, solve disagreements, collaborate with classmates, and build stories together. The experience reminded everyone involved that sometimes the best learning happens during simple, old-fashioned play.
