Tiger Ventures 8th grade students took learning on the road with two STEM-focused field trips that connected classroom lessons to real-world careers.

At the Corning Museum of Glass, students explored the science and art behind glassblowing and flame working. They learned how glass is made from natural resources and shaped by both Corningpeople and nature. Through hands-on exploration, students saw how glass is used to study microscopic life, explore space, power the internet, and conserve resources. The visit highlighted how glass chemistry and glass art work together in practical, everyday ways.

The following day, students visited SUNY Broome for SPARK, an interactive program introducing a wide range of trades and career pathways. Working across campus, students learned hands-on, including CPR, solved a forensic science case, practiced flower arranging, and experienced on-camera performance in the college’s television studio. They learned alongside SUNY Broome faculty and industry professionals from more than 40 local employers, gaining a firsthand look at future academic and career options in the Southern Tier. spark

These trips offered students a powerful reminder that learning does not stop at the classroom door.
