Courtney Hine’s first graders at GFJ learned about the story of Thanksgiving, then made a Thanksgiving Story Mix where each ingredient stood for a different part of the Pilgrims’ journey. It turned history into something they could touch and explore.
They also made their own butter to see how the Pilgrims had to learn new skills and adjust to a brand new place. The kids shook their jars with huge smiles as the cream turned into butter right before their eyes.
Next, they created thankful bracelets and picked colors to show what they appreciated most. It gave them a simple and sweet way to think about gratitude and the people they cared about.
The celebration ended with everyone gathered around one big table, sharing a meal as a classroom family. It was a warm reminder of community, kindness, and thankfulness.
Happy Thanksgiving!
