BOCES Middle School Engineering Day brought energy, creativity, and plenty of problem solving to Broome-Tioga BOCES on Wednesday, November 19. Union-Endicott was proudly represented
by 18 JFS seventh and eighth graders who formed five teams and joined nearly 100 teams from districts across the region.
Engineering Day is designed to push students to think on their feet. Each year, teams race the clock to build a working Rube Goldberg machine using only the materials provided on site. Students do not know what they will be given until the competition begins. Once the clock starts, they have about three hours to plan, test, adjust, and complete their design.
The challenge blends hands-on STEM learning with collaboration. Students put science and math skills to work while also relying on time management, communication, and teamwork. The atmosphere stays upbeat and encouraging, and medals are awarded to the top teams.
The event depends on strong community support. Many adults and local businesses volunteer their time, with the Eastern Southern Tier STEM Hub and Broome-Tioga BOCES coordinating the day. Area businesses also play a key role by providing judges.
This year, U-E had a standout moment. The eighth-grade team of Jack Fabian, Jaxon Judge, Kyle Rice, and Cameron Tallon earned an impressive 3rd Place finish. Their hard work, focus, and creativity paid off.
Congratulations to all our students who represented U-E with pride.
