library books

Everyone has heard the phrase “Never judge a book by its cover”, and the UEHS library put that idea to the test with its fun “Blind Date with a Book” display. books

On a large case in the library, books are fully wrapped so the covers stay hidden. Each one comes with a genre, a short description, or a few review snippets taped to the front. Students pick a wrapped book that catches their eye, check it out, unwrap it, and start reading. If they hit it off, they are encouraged to share their new find with friends. And if the match is not perfect, that is part of the adventure. There is always a chance the next mystery pick will be the story of their dreams.

Every book also comes with a themed bookmark that students fill out and return when they bring the book back. It adds a small, personal touch to the experience and helps build excitement around each read.

This creative display was put together by Michelle Leonard-Brandt, UEHS Library Clerk, and Jesslynn Afarian, UEHS Librarian. It is one of many ways they spark interest and keep students reading. Their efforts are paying off. Circulation has grown by more than 100 books compared to this time last year.

UEHS readers are already wondering what the next display will be. Whatever it is, it is sure to keep the library buzzing.
