Recently, Sebastian Sklanka, a Broome-Tioga BOCES Oak Tree and UE student was awarded the BOCES Career Development Center’s prestigious Student Spotlight Award, given to just three students a year in the B-T BOCES Work Experience Program. Recognized students go above and Sebastianbeyond in their role as student workers and this year, Sebastian is in the Dayhab job site, where he was selected by his job adviser Joy Dirig.

In his work, Sebastian is a cleaner for the CTE Cosmetology classrooms. In this role, he has made connections with the Cosmo students and his hard work and meticulous detail to his work have been nothing short of impressive.

A ceremony was held for Sebastian and was attended by Oak Tree and CDC staff, Sebastian’s family, U-E Superintendent Nicole Wolfe, and the entire senior Cosmetology student body. After kind words by various adults, his picture was unveiled that will be displayed at various locations. Adding to the festivities, Student spotlightBOCES Hospitality Careers students served refreshments.

During the ceremony, CDC Work Experience Coordinator Colleen Squire also broke the exciting news that Sebastian had met the criteria for being paid for his work, which officially began on October 27.
