TV at preschool

Eighteen Tiger Ventures (TV) students in grades 8 through 12, including agriculture students, TV at preschoolstudent council members, and seniors, spent a day outside the classroom learning, serving, and connecting with the community.

Kidventures School, located on the Vestal Parkway, offers programs for children aged two through local homeschool groups. Each year, the school hosts its annual Harvest Festival at the Musser family farm in Vestal, NY. The event relies on parental volunteers to help run a variety of hands-on activity stations for TV at preschoolchildren and families.

This year, thanks to the coordination of Tiger Ventures staff members Katelyn Perrino and Brad Foster, TV students volunteered to run the stations, allowing parents to relax and enjoy the day with their children.

Working in pairs, students were responsible for resetting and cleaning each station every 5–8 minutes as families rotated to each activity. Students were responsible for demonstrating activities and assisting children with their tasks. Stations included milking a cow, roping a steer, stuffing scarecrows, making witches’ brooms, hayrides, pumpkin ring toss, obstacle courses, hay searches, nature crafts, live animal handling, pumpkin painting, corn shucking, and more.

The experience provided valuable lessons in leadership, responsibility, and teamwork. Students worked through changing weather conditions for nearly three hours, taking short breaks between rotations (and even enjoying a hayride themselves.) Throughout the day, they interacted with children and families as mentors and facilitators, helping ensure the festival ran smoothly and successfully.

The collaboration between Tiger Ventures and Kidventures was a meaningful opportunity for both schools, emphasizing hands-on learning and community engagement. The TV team looks forward to continuing this partnership and exploring more opportunities to work alongside community organizations in the future.
