Ryan

UEHS junior Ryan Schappert has earned a rare honor that goes far beyond the fairway. Already known as a standout golfer, Schappert has been chosen as one of only two students from Section IV to serve on the New York State High School Athletics Student Athlete Advisory Committee. This statewide group gives student-athletes a voice in shaping the future of high school sports in New York.

A two-sport athlete—competing in golf for UEHS and hockey for Broome County—Schappert was nominated by the U-E athletic department for more than just his athletic ability. Coaches and staff cited his encouraging nature, leadership, and the positive impact he has on his teammates as key reasons for the nomination.

Schappert says his main focus is making sure all athletes feel valued.

“If you start to promote at the state level things that could help team-build… athletes who feel like they don’t have as big of a role can start to feel like they’re a big part of the team,” he said.

Schappert will serve on the committee through both his junior and senior years, offering insight and ideas from a student’s perspective. His commitment to supporting others and lifting up those around him makes him an ideal representative—not just for UEHS, but for all of Section IV.

The district is proud to have Ryan leading by example and representing UE on the state stage.
