UEHSt students arrived safely in Milan, greeted by beautiful spring weather and warm welcomes from their Italian host families. After light snacks and school tours, students jumped into a full day of classes, following their Italian counterparts and even acting as guest speakers at local elementary schools.
The group enjoyed gelato and shopping in downtown Varese before boarding a high-speed train to Venice. Under sunny skies, they toured the fish and vegetable markets, visited the Basilica of San Marco, and explored the city's canals by boat. Click here to view more photos.
Sunday was spent relaxing with Italian host families, including a traditional barbecue. A trip to the Duomo in Milan followed, where students climbed to the rooftop for breathtaking (if foggy) views.
April 16–17 were packed with more school visits, English conversations with Italian students, family time, and trips to Milan’s galleries and shops — capped off with a classic tiramisu night.
On April 19, the group left Varese for Florence. After a long bus ride, students explored the city, visiting the Pitti Palace, Ponte Vecchio, Santa Croce, and the Easter market. They even witnessed a historical parade linked to Florence’s famous Easter celebrations.
April 20 brought more Florence adventures, including the traditional "Explosion of the Cart" event, visits to the Uffizi Gallery and the Accademia Museum (home to Michelangelo’s David), and another great Italian dinner.
The final stop was Rome, where students toured the Vatican Museums, Sistine Chapel, and St. Peter’s Basilica. They witnessed national mourning following the death of Pope Francis. The day continued with a visit to the Pantheon, Trevi Fountain, Spanish Steps, and shopping along Via Condotti, wrapping up an unforgettable Italian adventure.
