Before the winter break, Tiger Venture students participated in Just Drive, a two-day program for younger drivers presented by the Broome County Health Department and the Broome County Sheriff’s Office. The program focuses on the real-life consequences of risky driving and the importance of making safe decisions behind the wheel.
On Day 1, students worked through realistic driving scenarios involving distraction, drowsiness,
impairment, and speed. In small groups, they discussed the choices a driver could make in each situation and the possible outcomes of those decisions.
Day 2 shifted to hands-on learning. Students took part in fun, interactive activities designed to test divided attention while experiencing simulated impairment or distraction. These exercises reinforced how easily focus can be lost and why staying alert on the road matters.
By giving young drivers a chance to see the impact of their choices before they’re behind the wheel, Just Drive helps build safer habits early. The program encourages awareness, responsibility, and confidence that can lead to better decisions and safer roads for everyone.
