On October 28, JFS welcomed representatives from the Twin Tiers Honor Flight and several local veterans for a special visit. The Twin Tiers Honor Flight is a non-profit organization dedicated to
honoring American veterans for their service and sacrifices.
Leading up to the visit, students held a building-wide shoe drive to benefit the organization’s mission. In just one week, they collected more than 325 pairs of shoes. These shoes were donated to Funds2Orgs who gives monetary donations for shoes collected. That money went to support local veterans and the ongoing work of Twin Tiers Honor Flight.
During the visit, students met face-to-face with veterans and organization representatives in the library during social studies classes. The sessions were filled with conversation, reflection, and
learning. Veterans shared personal stories of service and sacrifice, while students asked thoughtful questions and connected classroom lessons to real-life experiences. Students also made thank you and welcome home cards for veterans, learned about the different branches of the military, and worked on a scavenger hunt.
Students gained a deeper appreciation for the men and women who have served, and the veterans were moved by the students’ curiosity and generosity.
We are proud of our students for their compassion, initiative, and commitment to giving back to those who have given so much.
