GFJ held its very first One School, One Book community reading initiative when students, families, and staff came together to share the joy of reading through the heartwarming novel “Fenway and Hattie,” by Victoria Coe.

The program kicked off with a schoolwide event designed to bookintroduce students to the book and build excitement for the weeks ahead. During the kickoff celebration, students learned about the story, met the lovable main character, Fenway, and discovered all the fun activities planned throughout the schoolwide reading experience.

Then families are encouraged to read a few chapters together each week at home, creating meaningful opportunities for connection and conversation. To keep the excitement going, students will participate in weekly trivia challenges based on the chapters they read. Daily engagement include a special "Word of the Day" featured during morning announcements, helping students expand their vocabulary while connecting to the story. book

The One School, One Book experience will conclude with a special after-school celebration in June. Students and their families will gather for an evening of fun featuring themed activities, delicious food, and even a special visit from Fenway himself. The culminating event will be a joyful celebration of reading, community, and the shared experience of enjoying a wonderful story together.

GFJ is thrilled to embark on this new tradition, fostering a love of reading while strengthening connections among students, families, and staff. Through Fenway and Hattie, the school community is discovering the power of stories to bring people together
