As the school year ended, students at CFJ took time to pause and look inward—through art. Guided by art teacher Greg Bohner, students explored the idea of self-reflection by creating self-portraits that went beyond simple likeness.

Bohner challenged students to consider not just what they look like, but how they see themselves. What makes them unique? How do they express their personality? What do they want others to notice or understand about who they are? With these thoughtful questions in mind, students picked up their pencils, markers, and brushes—and got to work.

The results are powerful. Each portrait tells a story, capturing more than a face. From bold colors and expressive lines to subtle shading and symbolic touches, the pieces highlight the individuality and creativity of each student.

While it’s not always easy to turn the spotlight inward, this project gave students a chance to embrace the challenge in a meaningful, creative way. Their portraits now hang in the district office, offering a window into the diverse voices and perspectives of CFJ’s young artists.

Take a look at the collages below to see just a few of the remarkable pieces they created.
