From Union-Endicott to RIT, UEHS Class of 2024 graduate Jacob Bender is taking his passion for exercise science and helping others to new heights!

As part of RIT’s “Moving to Think” research project, Jacob and fellow students traveled to sports camps in New York and Oregon and conducted user-testing sessions in Kentucky. The CHST-funded project explores the connections between physical activity, neurocognition and AI-assisted coaching for youth with visual impairments.

Now a junior majoring in exercise science with minors in nutritional, chemistry and medical sciences, Jacob plans to pursue a career in pediatrics and sports medicine.

RIT article: “As part of the project, students collected data on physical activity, motor competence, cognitive function, and health outcomes, and worked with vision professionals to help evaluate accessible movement coaching and real-time feedback technologies. The work was funded through the CHST Summer Undergraduate Research Program.

All that effort came together on August 1, when Exercise Science students Jacob Bender and Nicholas Moquin presented their research alongside Dr. Pamela Beach at the International Association for Education and Rehabilitation of the Blind and Visually Impaired (AER) Conference in Louisville, Kentucky.”

We're proud of their contributions and grateful for the CHST Summer Undergraduate Research funding that made these experiences possible."
