Over the break, 36 eighth and ninth grade French students immersed themselves in the culture and language of Quebec City and Montreal, Canada. Students tried traditional foods like poutine and a popular Canadian dessert called beaver tails, exploring historic areas such as Old Quebec and Old Montreal, and visiting cultural sites including the Civilization Museum, the Copper Museum, and the Biodome.
The group also enjoyed views during a ferry ride on the St. Lawrence River and from the Kondiaronk Belvedere Lookout on Mount Royal. Along the way, students made maple taffy on snow, listened to French Canadian folk music, learned traditional dances, and explored graffiti art by creating their own graffiti-style hats as souvenirs.
“Experiences like these give students a chance to learn and grow, both in their language skills and their understanding of French Canadian culture,” said French teacher Bryan Tran.
Students returned home with unforgettable memories, greater confidence, and a deeper appreciation for the French-speaking world.
