UEHS senior Grace Judge has been selected to attend the Students Inside Albany Conference, scheduled for May 17–20. She is the first female student from UEHS to be selected for the conference and the first UEHS student chosen in 25 years.
The Students Inside Albany Program, sponsored by the League of Women Voters of New York State Education Foundation, Inc., is an annual initiative that gives high school students across New York State a firsthand look at state government. The program aims to strengthen students’ understanding of representative government and help them develop the skills needed to participate in it.
Grace was selected through a nomination process.
During the conference, students take part in interactive lectures on topics such as the state budget process, the role of lobbyists in legislation, citizens’ rights to access government information, the media’s role in politics, and efforts to reform state government. Participants also tour the state Capitol and shadow their state Senators and Assemblymembers during legislative sessions, providing a unique, hands-on learning experience.
Grace is a member of the UEHS Amnesty International Club that focuses on providing members opportunities to build relationships with state leaders. Students in Amnesty have presented to local leaders, networked with county-wide officials and will continue to grow and thrive through work on platforms which will ensure awareness about topics of equity. The district is very proud to have Grace represent UEHS.
