When Teagan McGuinness returned to UEHS as a New York State champion, the welcome reflected both her achievement and the pride of the entire school community.
Escorted by local police and fire vehicles, Teagan was welcomed back as students and staff lined
the sidewalk in front of UEHS, cheering and clapping while the procession made its way down the street and into the parking lot.
Winning a New York State championship in girls wrestling is no small feat. It represents months and months of discipline, long practices, early mornings, and mental toughness. Teagan approached each match the same way she approaches everything else, steady, focused, and composed. That consistency carried her all the way to the top
of the podium.
And she absolutely dominated in her final high school season. Every single match except ONE ended in either a pin or tech this year. At the state championship, she spent less than four minutes on the mat enroute to her finals appearance against Section IV rival Kyah Nelson of Tioga. In a rematch of the Section IV finals, it was Teagan prevailing with a pin at 3:49 to become the state champion!
As she stepped out of the car and was greeted by teammates, teachers, coaches, and classmates, there were smiles, hugs, and plenty of congratulations. Everyone there understood just how much work went into that title.
Teagan may not seek the spotlight, but on this day, the U-E community made sure she felt their appreciation. Her championship reflects her character: determined, humble, and resilient.
We are incredibly proud to call her a New York State champion!
