Students in Mrs. Michelle Gee’s business classes at UEHS had the opportunity to meet with several local businesses to learn about real world careers.
Their first stop was a visit to both the Endicott Fire and Police Departments. They toured the
facilities and learned the role of first responders from our very own UEHS SRO, Sgt. Leonard. He spoke with students about being in law enforcement along with the hiring process to enter the criminal justice field. At the fire station, students talked with fire fighters about the field. They also got a close look at all the equipment, including sitting in the ladder truck.
Later in the year, representatives from NYSEG also spoke to classes about careers as a lineman
including training and salary. They showed the students the truck they used in the field and demonstrated how it works.
Most recently Frank LoPiccolo from Frank’s Italian restaurant visited Mrs. Gee’s business classes to talk about owning a business and running a restaurant and the skills needed to be successful.
As this course continues throughout the year, students will also be able to develop a resume, work on job interviewing skills and learn to set goals for future careers. They are encouraged to explore a variety of careers that match their interests and values.
