The Union-Endicott Central School District proudly celebrates Howard “Shorty” Bowen on being named a recipient of the Distinguished Service Award by the NYS Athletics Administrators Association.

This prestigious award honors individuals who are not athletic adshortyministrators but have made a lasting and meaningful impact on athletics within their local chapter. For U-E, there is no one more deserving than Shorty.

For 55 years, Shorty has been a constant presence in the Union-Endicott football program. His dedication spans generations of Tigers. Over the decades, he has served as team manager, coordinated equipment inventory, set up practices, handled laundry, and taken care of countless behind-the-scenes responsibilities that keep the program running smoothly. If something needs to be done, Shorty does it.

Coaches have come and gone. Players have graduated and returned as parents. Through it all, Shorty has remained a steady, reliable force. His work may often happen out of the spotlight, but its impact is seen every at every game and felt by every athlete who has worn the Tiger uniform.

The NYS Athletics Administrators Association is committed to promoting the professional growth and positive image of interscholastic athletics across New York State. The organization also works to preserve the educational value of school sports and their important role within a school’s curriculum. By recognizing individuals like Shorty, the association highlights the heart of high school athletics: dedication, service, and community.

Union-Endicott is proud of Shorty Bowen and grateful for the time, energy, and care he has given to generations of student-athletes. His legacy is woven into the fabric of U-E football, and this honor is a fitting tribute to a lifetime of service.
