UEHS Spanish Club marked Day of the Dead this year by painting pumpkins, turning the usual fall craft into something with deeper meaning. The holiday takes place every year on November 1 and 2 across Mexico and in many other Spanish speaking countries. It focuses on remembering family members who have passed away, and it follows the belief that their spirits return during these two days to visit the living. spanish club

Students talked about how families often build ofrendas filled with photos, candles, and favorite foods to welcome their loved ones back. They learned that the tradition is not about fear or mourning but about connection, gratitude, and keeping memories alive. Painting pumpkins let everyone blend familiar autumn fun with symbols from the holiday, such as marigolds, bright colors, and sugar skull designs. It gave the club a simple way to explore the culture while adding a creative twist of its own.
