JFS student earns black belt
JFS seventh-grader Leah Farmer received her second-degree black belt in Tang Soo Do Moo Duk Kwan Karate.

Leah began karate in second grade at Tri City Karate in Vestal under Tory Lombardo. She received her first-degree black belt in fifth grade.
She has trained three to four days a week over the past two years to be considered a candidate to test. She also had to complete a book report on courage and strength of character, a 2,000-word essay on why she wants to continue in martial arts, doing random acts of kindness, community service, a letter of recommendation, and hours of practice.

On April 16 and 17, she successfully completed the two-day test and received her second-degree black belt during a promotion ceremony hosted by the International Tang Soo Do Practitioners Association in Poughkeepsie. Congratulations Leah!
