PE teacher receives award

Teresa McKinney, a physical education teacher at GFJ, was recently awarded the New York State Amazing Person Award.

This award is given each year to a dedicated member of The New York State Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (NYSAHPERD) at the zone and section level. McKinney was awarded for the Central South Zone, which includes all members from Broome, Cayuga, Chemung, Chenango, Cortland, Delaware, Otsego, Schuyler, Tioga, and Tompkins counties.

The Amazing Person Award criteria is decided on by each zone. In the Central South Zone, the award is given to a member who shows commitment to professional growth in health and/or physical education, who is involved in regional and state initiatives, is innovative in their instruction, and is generally committed to teaching students how to live a healthy and physically active life, demonstrated through their involvement in their school community.

McKinney received her award at a dinner and ceremony held at the Turning Stone Resort. She has worked in the UE School District for 20 years.

Congratulations!
