Broadway actor comes to UEHS
Tony Award nominee Constantine Maroulis, the original Drew in the Broadway hit "Rock of Ages" conducted a master theater class with the UEHS cast who will be performing the high school version of the same title.
Maroulis spent four hours with director Joe Brainard and students. As they performed numbers, he provided feedback, critiques and suggestions. Throughout the class, he answered questions and talked about his experience on Broadway and being an actor. He provided insight tailored to UEHS's upcoming performance, including solos, group numbers, duets, blocking, scene work, and character analysis.
Because UEHS is one of the first high schools in the country to perform this musical, Straight From New York (SFNY) offered this opportunity. SFNY represents multiple Tony Award winning and nominated Broadway artists and helps to make these kinds of opportunities possible.
Maroulis burst onto the scene in the fourth season of "American Idol" alongside country superstar Carrie Underwood. His fame from 20 million viewers mixed with his prior training in musical theatre led him to Broadway, where he helped turn "Rock of Ages" into a worldwide brand.
This was an exciting opportunity for UEHS students. Maroulis engaged our students, working one on one with cast members on delivering lines, making an entrance and anything else related to performing in a musical. This was truly a wonderful experience for our students!
