Event SPARKs career interests for students

JFS students had the opportunity to SPARK an interest in a career as they explored a variety of careers at SPARK, a career exploration fair held at SUNY Broome.
The event offered five career areas for students to explore: healthcare, STEM, trades/warehousing, business, and humanities. All sections included representatives from Broome-Tioga BOCES, SUNY Broome, and area businesses. Students were able to explore as many career options as they wanted, talk with professionals and educators in those fields, learn about careers in the region, entry-level salaries and potential salaries, types of careers and the education and training needed. Hands-on and interactive stations engaged students, allowing them to ‘work’ alongside professionals as they demonstrated the different aspects of their respective careers.
Whether a student is interested in helping people, building things, tinkering with machines, doing math, drawing, or isn’t quite sure yet, there was something for every student to explore, step outside their comfort zone and SPARK something new.
