Collaboration connects students

Collaborating with our educational partners to provide opportunities for students is an ongoing endeavor at U-E. That collaboration came to life when Broome-Tioga BOCES New Visions (NV) Education Academy students had the opportunity to observe U-E English as a Next Language (ENL) classrooms for the past four weeks.

At the conclusion of the observation unit, the NV students invited the ENL students to the NV Law and Government Academy’s International Fair at the American Civic Association. 20 U-E students in grades four through 12 traveled to the fair with ENL teachers Carrie Martin, Ali Brady, and Tiffany Haris-Khan.

The fair included school leaders, teachers and students from BOCES with different stations set up that focused on a country that represented those who have immigrated here.

There was information on becoming a citizen, the different cultural groups in the area and other resources to assist them as they make a new life in Greater Binghamton. Brady said, “It was a great event for our students and for the New Visions students.”
