Union-Endicott Central School District News Article

June 1 update

It’s hard to believe today is the first day of June, and summer is just around the corner.

There are several ways district leaders, faculty and staff are preparing for the end of the school year, with moving up ceremonies for students in grades 5 and 8, the June 9 budget vote, and the much-anticipated high school graduation ceremony.

  • The moving up ceremonies are being scheduled at each building. Please contact the principal for information, as the dates/times vary based on the child’s school and teacher.
  • As mentioned last week, we are planning to have our high school graduation ceremony on Saturday, June 27, 2020. We have submitted our plan to the State, which includes an “in-person” ceremony on the UEHS field. We must wait for state approval of this ceremony, and we have other options available if needed. We are hopeful the students can come together one last time to celebrate this unprecedented school year.
  • On June 1, in Zoom format, U-E will be presenting the annual Meet the Candidates @ 6 p.m., Budget Hearing @ 6:30 p.m. and Board Meeting @ 7 p.m. If you would like to participate, here is the link.
  • All mailing labels for the ballots were provided by Broome County Board of Elections.  If you received a ballot with incorrect information, please contact the county at 607-778-2172 to make corrections. Also, if you live in the UE school district, are an eligible voter, and have not received your ballot, please email Sue Reif at [email protected].

As we prepare for the upcoming school year, we are pleased the 2020-21 school budget stays within the tax levy limit, preserves programs for students, and prevents layoffs for staff. Due to the financial condition of the state, the governor has mentioned the possibility of "taking away" school funding at four different intervals over the next year. We are hopeful the federal government can provide relief to prevent funding deficits. As of today, we have not been notified that funds have been taken away from U-E's current year's budget or from the budget being presented for the 2020-21 school year.

Here are this week's updates:
