Students visit ACA
JFS students in English as a Next Language (ENL) class recently visited the American Civic Association for its International Fair, hosted by BOCES New Visions Education and Law & Government Career Academy students.
Recently, New Visions students visited JFS to observe the ENL students in ELA, science and language classes. They learned about the accommodations made for students and how students are placed into classes, using guidelines from the state. They also learned about the curriculum and classroom structure.
At the fair, JFS students were treated to homemade food from Latin American countries. They also received important information on government officials, aid programs and different resources that assist immigrant families entering and living in the United States.
Our students learned so much. A big thank you to Anne Loew, a former JFS teacher and currently BOCES New Visions instructor and placement coordinator, for hosting the event with her students.
