UEHS prom is just around the corner and if you are in need of a dress or accessories Tiger Boutique may have just what you are looking for.
UEHS teacher Dee Woods-Gaston began collecting dresses many years ago when she saw an increase in students not attending prom because they did not have a prom dress. In November 2015, then-senior Alexis Austin came up with the idea to create a special space for these dresses as part of her PIG Leadership project. With the help of Woods-Gaston, Tiger Boutique officially opened in April 2016.
It has truly been a collaborative effort. Tech teachers in metal classes made the bars the dresses hang on, business teachers loaned a mannequin to display the dresses on, staff members have donated dresses, and students volunteer to help out with organization and dress collection. The closet has expanded to include shoes, purses, and jewelry and there is also a limited amount of men’s clothing available as well.
This year, UEHS librarian Trish Vaughan and library assistant Jennifer Pelton created a fabulous website featuring each dress.
Everything is free in Tiger Boutique and it is open to students from other districts. There are dozens of dresses in all sizes, styles, and colors. Check them out at the Tiger Boutique website.
