Sadly, former Union-Endicott Board of Education member Joe Zurine passed away. Calling hours are 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m., December 22 at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church. This will be followed by a funeral mass.
These pictures cannot begin to reflect all that Mr. Zurine did for U-E schools. With 20 years of board service, including serving on the region’s BOCES Board, Mr. Zurine was “all about the kids”.
Mr. Zurine was on the board when the flood of 2006 hit and did extensive damage to the high school. His guidance in navigating insurance coverage was invaluable. He brought expertise to the board of education, notably in the area of facilities. Compliments that we receive on how nice U-E facilities look are a direct reflection of Mr. Zurine’s service. The district is indebted to him for his time and wisdom in that effort, as well as for the myriad of other things he championed for to benefit U-E students.
He is a man who definitely left a legacy, and he will be missed.
