The Brotatoes did it!
While the official world record still needs to be validated by Guinness, the Brotatoes, with the help of the Potato Posse (volunteers of staff, friends and family), did it.
Evan Armstrong, Colin Stockdale, Tyler Hubeny and Jason Lin unofficially broke the world record of the largest serving of mashed potatoes at 2,641 lbs., on June 20 at the Chenango Champlain Collegiate Center at Binghamton University.

After completing the proper paperwork for Guinness, the potatoes were put on large serving sheets and frozen overnight. On Sunday, June 21, the frozen potatoes were packaged and then distributed to area food kitchens through CHOW.
The community played a big role in making this endeavor possible. Peter Newman of M&T Bank helped establish the initial contact with The Food Bank of the Southern Tier and CHOW. The Food Bank of the Southern Tier donated all 2,500 pounds of potatoes and CHOW helped distribute the mashed potatoes to its meal sites. Sodexo provided guidance on how to make such a large quantity of mashed potatoes and oversaw the actual cooking process. Tractor Supply Company in Vestal loaned the 300 gallon vat to hold the total amount of mashed potatoes and the UE community provided donations and support.
