UEHS graduate visits students

Right before the break, UEHS Class of 2017 graduate Tim Carpenter, a Marine, paid a special visit to his pen pals in Joanne Curly-Bettis’ class.

Last year, when Tim was in boot camp, the class wrote him letters of encouragement and Tim wrote the class back and a letter-writing friendship ensued.

This year, her current third graders wrote to him on Veterans Day thanking him for his service.
While on leave he was able to meet the students in person. He talked with them about his journey, starting at SUNY Broome and then enlisting in the Marines. He told them about boot camp, meals, the different exercises and training required, and what his days are like.
He and Principal Bob Maraski, a former Marine, talked about the many traditions of being a Marine and some of the changes over the years. They showed students how to stand at attention, salute, and stand as you were.

It was a great opportunity for our Tiger cubs to see a Tiger just like them and the many possibilities the future holds. Thank you, Tim, for visiting your Tiger pen pals and for your service.
