JFS students participated in the annual Engineering Day Event at Broome-Tioga BOCES.
Our students competed against students from 17 local school districts, working in teams to create the best functional Rube Goldberg-like machine using only a set of everyday materials provided for the project.
The teams were given approximately two hours to design and assemble the machine. They are given no advanced knowledge of the materials to be used until they begin the competition. This hands-on project requires students to use not only their academic skills, through science and math, but also interpersonal skills such as time management and teamwork.
Judges for the event came from local businesses, Raymond Corporation, Lockheed-Martin, and BAE Systems.
The team of Gabby, Olivia, Ryan, and Harold placed third out of 45 teams in the competition!
Congratulations to all our students who participated.
