JFS students, staff #choosekind

Staff in their choose kind T-shirts
JFS kicked off their Olweus theme, #choosekind, with an assembly that is the first of a variety of activities for the school year.

The objectives for the BPT/Olweus team were to implement something that could easily carry out for years, with a relatable message for students and adults alike. The message this year, #choosekind, is related to the book and soon-to-be- released movie “Wonder” by R.J. Palacio.

Staff, in a sea of blue, wore #choosekind T-shirts and guest speaker John Perricone led the assembly with a message of inner strength, overcoming negative behaviors and strategies to be a more positive person.

After the assembly, students returned to homeroom to watch the trailer for “Wonder” and read the first chapter of the book. Next students and staff discussed ways to demonstrate choosekind. They wrote these down on message balloons and hung them around the school.

The top five entries in each grade level will receive two tickets to see the movie at AMC Theaters in Vestal!
