The UEHS Varsity Cheer team qualified for the 2018 National High School Cheerleading Championship after competing this past Sunday at Kutztown University in the 2017 Pocono Regional Qualifying Tournament, placing in the tournament and receiving a qualifying bid to move onto the national championship. They competed against teams from New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania.
On February 9, the team will travel to Walt Disney World to compete at the ESPN Wide World of Sports against teams from all over the country in the National High School Cheerleading Championship.
The National High School Cheerleading Championship (NHSCC) is the most prestigious cheerleading championship in the country. The NHSCC is held at the Walt Disney World® Resort in Orlando, Florida, and nationally televised on ESPN and ESPN2 to over 100 million homes and 32 countries nationwide each year. The Championship is also streamed live on Varsity TV on Varsity.com.
Teams must attend a Universal Cheer Association (UCA) Cheer Camp and participate in the Squad Credentialing Program to be eligible to compete. Then the team must receive a bid at a 2017 Fall Qualifying Tournament. The Union-Endicott cheer program has been attending overnight cheer camps for over 20 years, and this was the first year the varsity team competed for a chance to qualify for the national championship.
The cheerleaders are excited and honored to be representing Union Endicott High School but also our community. Congratulations to the varsity cheerleaders.
