Staff participate in work session

Staff at mental health first aid training U-E staff members Georgia Wimberly and Elizabeth Burke provided the first in a series of Youth Mental Health First Aid Training work sessions to a group of U-E teachers, social workers, nurses, guidance counselors, and support staff in K-12.

In the first cohort, Cindy Morford, Kathy Burt, Wendy Antalek, John Lenzo, Matt Hobert, Tera Buckley, Vincenzo Baleno and Mary Pomerantz spent two days working with the trainers on topics such as common mental health challenges for youth, reviewing typical adolescent development, and learning a five-step action plan for how to help young people in both crisis and non-crisis situations.
Funded by a grant through New York State Senator Fred Akshar, Wimberly, Burke and Kelly Eurillo attended an intense week-long certification course in order to provide training and support for UECSD employees.
