Fifth-grade students from all four elementary buildings traveled to JFS for a visit to give them an idea of what middle school will be like.
Next year’s sixth-graders met building administrators Tim Lowie, Heather Pufky and Mike Moran as well as some of this year’s sixth graders who were on hand to answer questions about the middle school. During the question and answer session, students asked about class times, getting around the building and grades.
Students then went through the cafeteria line and had lunch. Next they split into groups to tour the building, including the two gyms, the library and the technology center. They also met guidance, health and main office staff.
Giving fifth-graders the opportunity to spend part of their day at the middle school helps to alleviate some of the anxiety of leaving the comforts of a smaller elementary school as Tiger Cubs and taking the first step into becoming a Tiger in the Middle.
