The U-E French Exchange welcomed 15 students from the Lycée St. Elme in Arcachon, France April 5-15. This year we teamed up with Maine-Endwell School District who welcomed five students for a total of 20 students for this, our tenth exchange with the same school and community in France.
All students stayed with host families so they could experience our American life and culture for 10 days. Students ranged in ages from 16 – 18. As with all cultural exchanges, the experience is filled with day-to-day challenges punctuated with a variety of cultural outings and events.
This year we took in a Binghamton Devils Hockey, and traveled to Niagara Falls, Cornell University, Taughannock Falls, Cooperstown Fenimore Museum, Farmers Museum & Baseball Hall of Fame and met with Endicott Mayor Bertoni.
A farewell banquet was celebrated at Atrio. As with the nine previous exchanges, our U-E students gained valuable insights into what life is like for their European counterparts and vice versa. Students on both sides are enriched and sometimes challenged, but always transformed after this valuable experience is completed.
