Tiger Ventures starts indoor garden

Tiger Ventures continues to collaborate with community partners in providing students with hands-on experiences. Recently, teacher Nick Greco and his STEAM class partnered with 2445 Organics in starting a new indoor garden.

Andy Maslin, founder of 2445 Organics, is serving as a Tiger Ventures mentor. Maslin’s company supplies the class with high efficiency growing technology along with techniques and information for growing indoors. The students started the vegetable garden with plans of transferring it to the greenhouse for an early start to the growing season.
The objective is to use the harvest to supply the Tiger Ventures cafeteria with fresh leafy greens every week.

In two weeks, the first harvest of fresh lettuce planted, cared for, cut, and cleaned by students will be ready. At that time, they will have planted in succession the next week’s produce, ensuring the cafeteria has a weekly harvest. Next on the list are carrots, cucumbers, tomatoes, and radishes.

Included with the veggies are hydroponic herbs. They are planting dill, sage, and lavender to use in making fresh dips, sauces, and dressings to accompany the in-house harvest. Students will be adding lots of basil, parsley, rosemary, and oregano. Stay tuned!!
