As the new school year approaches, the staff at JFS have been working hard to welcome our newest Tigers in the Middle. While the traditional 6th-grade Prep Academy was a little less than traditional, what didn’t change was giving our students the opportunity to meet staff and tour the building.
Add a pandemic to the mix and some changes were necessary, including signing in, taking temperatures, and wearing masks. Students in both the remote and hybrid academies were invited to attend. Each student was given a day and time to keep the numbers small.
As in years past, prep academy gives students the chance to see classrooms, the cafeteria, gym, and library as well as meet staff.
For remote students, a virtual tour was given. Staff, using cell phones, talked live with students, introduced themselves, and toured the building.
Indeed, it was a different Prep Academy this year; what remains the same is giving our sixth-graders the chance to see the building, in person or virtually, and hopefully, alleviate any concerns or anxiety students may have when transitioning from elementary to middle school.
A big thank you to the staff who worked so hard to make this year’s academy a success.
