Ten AGM second graders had the opportunity to participate in a four-part workshop series “PBS KIDS Ready Jet Go!” During the workshops, students enjoyed learning about what is space and making spacesuits, understanding and making balloon rockets, learning about comets and rovers, and learning about Earth and making bird feeders.
Students participated in hands-on activities, digital games, PBS KIDS videos, met NASA Astronaut Doug Wheelock visited Kopernik Observatory, and worked with Cornell Cooperative Extension on recycling.
The workshop series provided a virtual learning experience that engaged families in educational opportunities focusing on science concepts that they could do and learn together.
To extend the learning beyond the four days, the students each received a PBS PlayPad loaded with PBS KIDS apps, games and videos to be enjoyed on and offline. The device connects families with many new resources, including books, activities, ideas, and media. Students also received a framed picture of the team with Astronaut Doug Wheelock and an envelope of fun PBS stickers!
Thank you to WSKG PBS KIDS and Nancy Coddington for organizing an amazing family opportunity! Thank you to all the AGM students and families who participated!
