The Squad hosts its first meeting

the squad

UEHS was busy welcoming back students to four days of in-person learning and The Squad was no exception.
Squad advisers Chris Murdock and Tom Bierworth welcomed the boys back with a pizza lunch and Squad gear, including masks for the seniors.
Binghamton University Upward Bound program talked to students about their involvement in the area, and Endicott Police Officer Brandon Leonard and Broome County Sergeant Sammy Davis were also present. They met some of the new members and were able to catch up with the other boys, some of whom they have not seen since last year. Leonard and Davis talked with members about their roles in the community, how they work to make a positive difference, and building relationships.
The Squad is for male students of color that takes a positive approach to help them find success in and out of school. Students meet and talk with guest speakers, mentors from SUNY Broome and BU, minority business owners, and law enforcement. Students and mentors share experiences, talk about making good choices, and being a good representation of the community.
This group is a wonderful example of community and collaboration; students and adults sharing and working together.
