Art students design posters

Working with others and meeting the needs of a client are important skills to have when entering the workforce. Students in Diane Golden’s Advertising Design and Illustration class got some hands-on experience when they were tasked with designing the artwork for the upcoming UEHS Musical, “Anything Goes.”

Students met with musical director Joe Brainard who provided them with guidelines, parameters, and a due date. With that information, students were able to develop ideas using industry-standard software to create artwork to advertise the musical. Students presented their ideas to Mr. Brainard who narrowed them down to two finalists.

Ultimately, he combined the ideas of Kaylee Crocker and Emily Jones to create the final design which is being used for all printed advertising and promotional materials, including clothing.

For all of Ms. Golden’s students, meeting with a potential client, working within certain guidelines, meeting a due date, and learning if they received the job or not gave them a glimpse of what working in the field will be like. Jaiden Williams explained, “I felt like I was doing something professional. It was cool to create something for the music department and that we were trusted to do something so important.”

Thank you to Ms. Golden and Mr. Brainard for this work experience opportunity.

Emily and Kaylee's designs were combined to create the final poster design.

Check out the student designs and their respective thoughts on this process.
