Welcome to our classroom page! Here you can find information about what's happening in Room 10. Read the weekly newsletter to find out what we have been doing in school. You can also find information about the curriculum below.

English/Language Arts

Our English/Language Arts instruction consists of three blocks: Writing Workshop, Language/Word Study and Reading Workshop.

During Writing Workshop, we look at the work of published authors as mentor texts. Students engage in writing activities in a variety of ways. We do interactive writing as we share the pen to create a writing piece together. Students also express their ideas through pictures and text in their drawing and writing books. Later in the year, we will begin doing multi-page stories about a single topic with a picture and text on each page.

Activities during Language/Word Study consist of shared reading of big books and classroom charts, interactive read-alouds of children's literature, phonics lessons and more.

During Reading Workshop, students work in small groups in centers to practice literacy skills we are learning. While students are working in centers, small groups of students work with the teacher in a guided reading group.

Math

Math instruction is based on the New York State Common Core for Math. We will be working on developing a solid understanding of numbers including reading and writing of numbers, counting, and simple addition and subtraction. Other topics include two and three dimensional shapes, simple measurement, and sorting and classifying. Daily calendar routines also take place during our math block.

Science and Social Studies

Students participate in science and social studies instruction in the general education classroom. Information will come home from the general education teacher regarding these subjects.
