Promise Zone Summer Zone

Summer Zone 2017 kicked off the season with great energy and fun!!!
On Monday, campers were welcomed and participated in ice breakers and games with staff; lots of team building! The camp schedule was also explained to give campers a general outline of what to expect over the next few weeks. The group discussed safety and respect to be sure everyone started camp with the same ideas and understanding about the rules.
One of the activities was creating solar ovens out of pizza boxes where we attempted to cook s’mores with the sun. Ask your camper about our sweet results! Also, we held a physics discussion and competition with the Bottle Flip Challenge.
Tuesday morning the campers got dirty! They tried their hands at gardening in one of the middle school courtyards; planting perennial flowers that will return year after year! Throughout the day, campers also went on scavenger hunts to find local treasures around the school. This was also an opportunity for youth mentors and campers to bond.

Wednesday began with Celebrity Rock-Paper-Scissors which got campers laughing and excited. Next, campers participated in the 100 Second Challenge where campers were timed to see if they could complete challenges in under 100 seconds! In the afternoon, Summer Zone was lucky enough to have a speaker from MHAST to lead a discussion about the Do It For Daron initiative to get campers talking about what they do to take care of their mental health!

Finally, Thursday concluded the week with a trip to Greenwood Park for campers and staff to relax and enjoy some summer fun. See below for the schedule for next week!!!!
