Superintendent presents at forum

Union-Endicott Central School District Superintendent Dr. Sue McLeod presented the Union-Endicott Community Schools model at a national forum on “Community Schools”.

Community Schools represent a coordinated effort to bring community agencies, school-funded initiatives and university resources together to provide a “wrap-around” environment of supports for students. Supports offered through a Community Schools model are described as school-based or school-linked and often include services such as mental/physical health clinics, social work services, afterschool programs, mentoring and academic support.

Programming is designed to address academic, behavioral and climate issues that schools identify as needing support beyond that which the school can provide alone. The event, held at the Binghamton University Downtown Center, was hosted by the Council of Chief state School Officers, the Coalition for Community Schools and Binghamton University. Attendees included local superintendents, state education commissioners including NYS Education Department Commissioner MaryEllen Elia, and representatives of several statewide, regional and national advocacy organizations.
